Se destacan las Mujeres Instrumentistas en las Premiaciones de la Jazz Journalists Association
Las mujeres continúan demostrando que la buena música y en específico el Jazz no es un mundo de hombres. A pesar de los obstáculos y el discrimen que enfrentan para ser reconocidas, cada vez más mujeres intrumentistas se destacan en la escena del Jazz, demostrando que son tan buenas o mejores que sus colegas masculinos.
Los periodistas de la Jazz Journalist Association en su premiación anual, que comenzó hace más de dos décadas en 1996, han reconocido este hecho con un incremento en nominaciones y ganadoras féminas durante los pasados años.
En las premiaciones de la JJA 2020, las mujeres dominaron gran parte de las categorías de instrumentistas comenzando por el reconocimiento Lifetime Achievement Award otorgado a la legendaria pianista, directora y compositora Carla Bley.

Terri Lyne Carrington estuvo en el Puerto Rico Heineken Jazz Fest 2014 junto a su proyecto Mosaic. Linda Oh fue la bajista del grupo de Pat Metheny que se presentó en el Centro de Bellas Artes de Guaynabo en el 2017. Anat Cohen se presentó en el Puerto Rico Heineken Jazz Fest 2010 junto a la agrupación de George Wein, y en el 2018 en un concierto liderando su grupo en el Centro de Bellas Artes de Santurce. En esa ocasión, Cohen ofreció talleres a los estudiantes del Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico, donde tuvimos la oportunidad de conocerla.
